Islamorada Tarpon Season is here

The last couple weeks on the water have been great with the Tarpon showing up around Islamorada and the Everglades. I had some first time Tarpon fly fisherman on board last week and they got lucky with some real nice weather and the tarpon were plentiful. Randy from Atlanta had a dream of catching a big Tarpon on fly for many years and he finally had one of the four fish he fed that day stay on the hook and we were able to get him boatside for a quick picture and release. Whenever I can make an angler’s dream a reality its truly very rewarding to me and the reason why I try so hard to make it happen for them.

I also got to spend a couple days in Key West with my good friends and clients Rich and Jorge, its always a pleasure fishing with these two dudes as they are a blast to hang out with and are as dedicated as it gets. We had a tough two first days with terrible conditions for what we went down there for and that was trying to get the holy grail Permit to eat a fly. We basically had 2 hours of sunlight to work with in two days of fishing but when the sun did pop out we took advantage and threw some crabs and put some nice Permit in the boat with one being a monster at 30 pounds. We had some chances with the fly rod but not enough to get these smart fish to eat a fly. We were able to find some big Tarpon as well and we hooked a couple nice fish that of course got unbuttoned during the fight.

Spring time is here and the fishing is about to get as good as it gets going into the summertime. If you haven’t already booked a trip you need to soon!
